Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at contact@earthandamberstudio.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

All new dreadlock clients are required to complete a consultation form. The link for this form can be found on the "HOME" page. After completion, please allow 1-3 weeks to receive an estimate for the cost of your requested service. To book your appointment, you will be required to make a deposit for 50% of the estimate you're given. The deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE for any reason. After the deposit is made, you will be able to schedule your appointment via telephone, text, or email.

Your hair should be at least 6 inches for new dreadlocks. Please be aware that all new dreadlocks are stiff and can stand up on their own, the shorter your hair is, the "spikier" your dreads will be at first. They will relax and lay down after washing, and even more once they mature.

Creating new dreadlocks takes time. During your appointment, you will have the opportunity to ask about home care, washing habits, scalp health, and products. I will "dreaducate" you to the best of my ability, so that you feel prepared and empowered by the time you leave the chair.

I use a micro crochet hook to weave the hair into a dreadlock. With this method I can also maintain and tighten your roots, add extensions for length, and flatten out loops and bumps.

This is a personal choice for every client. Think of it like a haircut, some people get haircuts very regularly, while others never go to the salon. Depending on how "neat" you like to present, how quickly your hair grows, the texture of your hair, and the speed at which your dreads mature, will all impact how often you will need maintenance. New dreadlocks will need maintenance more frequently than dreadlocks that are years old. Typically I suggest the first maintenance 2 months after install for a checkup.
